We Aren't Interested in Selling You Stuff

Let us help you find what you Actually need or better. We sometimes dissuade customers from buying certain pet products we carry because we do not think they are the right fit for their pet or situation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Best Diet for My Dog/ Cat?

When it comes to feeding your dog or cat, there’s really no one-size-fits-all “best” pet food. At Moonlight, we start with research. We believe the best pet food is one that’s as close to nature intended: whole-food based, minimally processed, and tailored to your pet. Then from there, we ask the questions of: What do you want to feed? We start by learning what matters to you—whether it's raw dog food, synthetic-free options, or budget-conscious picks, we guide you to choices that reflect your values. Does your pet actually like it? Taste matters. We find healthy dog food or cat food options your pet will actually enjoy. Does it work for your pet? We look at digestion, coat and energy to fine-tune your feeding plan. For raw food, use our raw pet food calculator to get suggestions. Let us help you find what you Actually need or better.

Should I Be Adding Supplements to My Dog’s or Cat’s Diet?

The short answer? Usually, yes. Even if your pet is eating a complete and balanced diet, there are often gaps. Pet supplements like probiotics support gut and immune health, while omega-3s (often from fish oil) help with skin, joint, heart, and inflammation support. Think of supplements as a boost—not a replacement—for a whole-food-based pet diet. Age, lifestyle, and health concerns all play a role—a senior cat may need joint support, while an allergic dog might need help an elimination diet as well as specific pet supplements. Watch how your pet responds. And always store supplements properly to keep them effective. The right pet supplement can support everything from seizures to skin health —and we’re here to help.

How Often Should I Bathe My Pet?

It really depends on your pet’s breed, coat type and lifestyle. As a general rule: Always use pet-safe shampoos—never human ones—and when in doubt, check in with our pet shop in Vancouver.

For dogs, short-haired breeds can usually go a couple of months between baths—unless they’ve rolled in something questionable (we see you, mud-lovers). Medium-coated dogs  and Long-haired breeds benefit from monthly baths to prevent matting and manage dirt. If your dog has skin issues or allergies, use a gentle, targeted shampoo. And for dogs that get dirty often, quick rinses with a dog-friendly conditioner can help between full washes.

What about cats? Most cats do a great job of keeping themselves clean, so baths aren’t necessary. We'd recommend brushing and dematting instead for most cats

Do Your Carry Raw Pet Food

Yes—we carry over 12 top raw pet food brands, including Red Dog Blue Kat, Carnivora, Big Country Raw, Iron Will, SmallBatch, and Primal. Our selection includes raw dog food and raw cat food, with options like BARF diets, whole prey models, and NRC-balanced raw diets.

If your pet has food sensitivities or allergies, we can help guide you through an elimination diet and recommend holistic pet supplements based on their health needs.

Most of our treats and chews are freeze-dried or dehydrated—ideal for raw-fed pets as well as pets on kibble.

Thinking about switching to raw feeding? Call us for tips, transition guidelines, and free samples. Not ready to go fully raw? We also offer high-quality whole-food-based kibble, which are the best on the market and can help you add fresh food into your pet’s current diet.
