How does the freedom no-pull harness work?
The freedom no-pull dog harness works in two ways.
- The first is that it has a martingale loop at the top which creates some pressure around the armpits when the dog pulls. This is an ingenious way of taking the pressure away from the throat. Therefore, dog harnesses are generally better than collars as they take the pressure off the dog’s throat and especially in the case of smaller dogs avoid the issue of a collapsed trachea.
- The second is that the freedom no-pull dog harness has a front-clip D ring which allows you to control the direction of your dog and makes turning easier. This is particularly helpful for dogs that pull as they swivel or turn slightly to the side.
At Moonlight Natural Pet Store, we prefer alternating between the front-clip of the freedom no-pull harness and the martingale loop at the back as the dog never gets used to a particular way of walking on leash. We suggest that no-pull harnesses sit high enough above your dog’s forelimbs. This works to prevent injury that could be caused from running or a change in gait. Dog harnesses in general take the pressure off the dog’s neck and prevent small dogs from getting collapsed trachea or other neck injuries.
Are freedom no-pull harness cruel?
Cruel can be a subjective term. In terms of harm to the dog, we think the freedom no-pull harness constitutes a minimum pressure exerted on the dog. As such, it won’t result in a collapsed trachea but distribute the pressure over the chest. We believe that vets in general will recommend harnesses over collars for the reasons we’ve described above. Where can I buy a freedom no pull harness in Canada?
